Discovered September of 2017, these mummies were found together in a burial shaft off of the tomb of goldsmith Amenemhat
Biography[]
The life and status of this woman and her sons is, as of yet, unknown. Her identity is still being sough.
Mummification[]
The woman was laid to rest beside her two sons in a burial shaft leading to the main area of the temple. The mummies were found with in coffins, surrounded by artifacts such as funerary combs, funerary masks, jewellery, and statue.
Studies[]
Research is ongoing, Minister of Antiquities Khaled al-Anani stating, "The work did not finish yet.", and "For the coming season, we are going to do our excavations. We are going to do our excavations in this area. So I believe we can find one, or two or maybe four if we are going to be very lucky, four of them in this area.".
Pathology[]
The woman is thought to have died of a bacterial bone disease.
Additional Info[]
The bodies are said to all be in very good condition, especially those of her two sons. The tomb of Amenhat, a royal goldsmith and his wife were both buried in this tomb, but the presence of other mummies was unknown until discovery. Four other names have been found inscribed in the tomb, leading archaeologists to assume that there are other mummies in other burial shafts yet to be found.
