After the death of Gladys Stansbury's son in law, she decided to live with her newly widowed daughter Jean Bergmeir to help around the house. Jean exhibited the characteristics of a typically hoarder,as empty bottles, plastic bags, and other forms of trash were seen scattered around the Bergmeir house. Unfortunately, in Gladys Stansbury's passing Jean could not part with her beloved mother and continued to believe that her mother was still alive. Letter's addressed to Mrs. Bergmeir from her mother were found and some of them were recently written as dated on the cards. After the death of Jean, cleaners came into the house and uncovered the mummified corpse of Mrs. Stansbury.
The body was found mummified wrapped in a blanket and covered in trash bags in a position between a bed and a wall. The secluded area void of sunlight and compact environment allowed for the mummification to take place.
