Ferdinand Emmanuel Edralin Marcos, Sr was born on September 11, 1917 in the town of Sarrat, Ilocos Norte. He served as the 10th president of the Philippines from 1965 to 1986. He fought in world war II alongside the Americans during the Japanese Invasion and claimed that he was the most decorated soldier in the Philippines at the time. He started out as a lawyer having studied at the University of the Philippines. He then moved to become a member of the Philippine House of Representatives from 1949 to 1959. After that he became the senate president of the Philippine Senate from 1959 to 1965.
On the morning of Septermber 28, 1989 Marcos died in exile in Honolulu of complications with his kidneys. His body was kept in a refrigerator mausoleum in Oahu as his corpse was denied re-entry into the Philippines until 2001.
Plans to bury Marcos was met by strong protest, and also Marcos' wife refused to bury him until the Philippines government gives Marcos full military honours. As a result, he was put into in a glass-topped coffin on display at the Marco's family mausoleum.
Marcos' body was buried on November 18, 2016 In Heroes' Cemetary, Taguig, Philippines.
