Ötzi was born around 3300 BCE. He is one of the oldest mummies ever discovered. His body was found on September 19, 1991 in the Ötztal Alps at the Austrian-Italian Border. He was discovered with an arrowhead in his left shoulder so his death was most likely a homicide.
His body was mummified due to freezing cold air, and dying near glacier water.
